At forty4 we use the 'Virtual Environment' software suite developed by Integrated Environmental Solutions. This is often referred to as IES or VE, or IES<VE>.
We provide our clients with the right advice at the right time, backed by detailed simulation and calculation. We give close attention to simple, low cost and effective design features and firmly believe we can offer benefits to all projects, large and small alike. Our simulation services not only inform and validate building designs, but also ensure projects are engineered specifically to meet the brief, without the over-engineering that so often occurs. Examples of the latter include proving designs work without the need for expensive air-conditioning, solar glass or brise-soliel.
The 'project based' services that we typically provide include:

Building simulation, commonly known as 'thermal modelling', describes a process whereby computers are used to create virtual buildings, including their thermo-physical design attributes. These building models then allow for detailed quantitative analysis to help develop and validate affordable low carbon building design.
Whilst we are simulation consultants with a strong track record, we come from an M&E consulting background, with many years of experience. We believe our understanding of the design process, building physics and building services, coupled with our experience of thermal modelling using the latest simulation software can add value to any project.
We provide services for all project stages, from early concept design through to ‘as constructed’ Energy Performance Certificates, working along-side architects, developers, M&E engineers, contractors, BREEAM assessors, planners and building control officers.
As a specialist simulation consultancy we are agile, well qualified and we focus on communication. Being 'small' has the advantage of allowing us to give projects the time they deserve, focusing on a 'get it right first time' principle. It also means you, our client, have contact with only one individual throughout the life of the project. But don't think that being small means we only contribute to small projects; we don't - see our portfolio pages and note that some of the projects will be in excess of £20M.
